Renata Fernandes Aguiar, also known as Rude Mamma, has been a selector and collector of Jamaican music records since 2008, making her one of the pioneers of Sound System culture in the city of São Paulo. Her record collection focuses on Jamaican musical production from the 1980s, in styles such as Rub-a-Dub and Dancehall, while also moving through Roots reggae, Digital, Steppa, and other branches of the genre.
In 2022, she built her own sound system (Mumma Powah) in order to have greater independence and autonomy to amplify reggae music.
This session for Worldwide FM is special and focused on female voices within reggae music and the sound system culture in Brazil and around the world. I bring a selection from my record collection, featuring productions from Brazil and from across the globe.
