Widely regarded as one of the most innovative South African producers of his generation, Thakzin has become a defining force in the global rise of African electronic music.
His music has earned the support of legends including Black Coffee, Louie Vega, Keinemusik, and Laurent Garnier, with airplay on BBC Radio 1 (Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong, Jamz Supernova) and performances at festivals and clubs worldwide: from Ultra, Spring Fiesta, Rocking the Daisies, Bushfire, and Kunye in Africa to Fabric, Paradiso (ADE), Montreux Jazz Festival, and Djoon across Europe, and far-reaching tours in Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. A quiet, grounded leader, Thakzin positions himself as a vessel for music rather than an ego-driven performer. For him, music is service to the ancestors, to the present community, and to future generations.
In this set, Thakzin presents us with his favourite tracks of the moment and some of his biggest influences, from South African house to Ethiopian jazz.
