Mehmet Aslan is a DJ based in Berlin. With this mix I wanted to focus on sound itself: to listen actively and think about what sound does to music, and what that thing we call music actually is. Stillness and silence were just as important to me, so I gave them space as part of the music rather than gaps between it. The mix weaves together field recordings from my recent travels, mainly around Uşak in western Turkey, where my parents are from, with music drawn heavily from the folk traditions of the Mediterranean (Greece, Italy and Turkey), with a few detours to other parts of the world.
