Andy McHugh is a Belfast-based creative director, radio host, DJ and community organiser whose work centres on building spaces where people can connect through music, culture and play. As co-founder of Neighbourhood Belfast, Boom Clap Play and Rudimentary Records, Andy has spent the past decade creating platforms that champion independent artists, community radio and grassroots culture. His broadcasts blend deep musical exploration with storytelling, placing equal importance on the people, places and ideas that shape the sounds we hear.
Live from WOH Radio stage, Notes from Belfast responds to the 2026 theme It Takes a Village by exploring the people, places and relationships that sustain grassroots music culture. Through a carefully curated selection of dub, reggae and left-field electronic music, interwoven with spoken reflections and short contributions from fellow organisers, broadcasters and artists, the programme considers how scenes are built through collective effort rather than individual achievement.
Drawing on experiences from Belfast and beyond, it reflects on community as an active, evolving force, shaped by DIY venues, community radio, independent labels, collectives and temporary spaces. Rather than simply documenting a city's music, Notes from Belfast tells the story of the village behind it, celebrating the quiet builders, shared histories and enduring connections that allow culture to thrive.
