Join Gilles Peterson live as we celebrate the second year of Studio Monkey Shoulder. Gilles is joined by WWFM’s Magdalena Moursy to reflect on the communities, collaborations, and sounds that defined the past year.

Studio Monkey Shoulder is our grassroots music initiative, in collaboration with Monkey Shoulder, and dedicated to uplifting and empowering local music communities. In our second year, we went to Germany for the first time, collaborating with experimental DIY space 90mil as well as underground raves pushing forward the electronic music scene on mainland Lagos in Nigeria with Mainland House, and a pop-up community radio experiment in Belfast with Neighbourhood Watch. 

We also released two collaborative compilations: one connecting Indigenous musicians in Eastern Taiwan with hip-hop producers across the country through Flavor Hualien, and another with Sound of Women, empowering women folk artists in rural North-East India by reimagining traditional samples through global producer collaborations and contemporary genres.
