Palestinian, Lebanese & British DJ Kamar (pronounced Ah-Mar) presents Tealeaves, dedicated to exploring sound through migration.
In each show, Kamar highlights music made by artists who have migrated, both new and old, from a plethora of time and places, zoning in on their culture, community and influences, exploring how the movement of people has intersected with music and sound.
This month, Kamar welcomes the incredible Nigerian-born, UK-based saxophonist, bandleader and composer, Camilla George. Known for blending African and Western music into a unique, politically charged style rooted in her heritage. A key figure in the London jazz scene, she draws on Afrofuturism, hip hop, and jazz. Influenced by Fela Kuti and Charlie Parker, she began playing saxophone at 11 and later studied at Trinity College of Music. A former member of Jazz Jamaica, she launched her own acclaimed project in 2014.
Her albums Isang, The People Could Fly, and Ibio Ibio have earned critical praise, with Ibio Ibio celebrating her Ibibio roots. Camilla has performed at top festivals like North Sea Jazz and Jazz à Vienne and won Best Jazz Act at the 2023 Urban Music Awards.
