Dani Roade has his heart in radio and Latin American music. The Guildford-based Colombian and Spanish multi-instrumentalist and DJ has been picked up by Balamii, Voices Radio and Brixton Radio as a uniquely exciting voice in audio storytelling. His shows uncover the treasures of classic Latin American songwriting, telling stories of struggle, love and myth.
“Tierra Querida” which means “beloved land” is a phrase that echoes across all corners of Latin America. From the first arrivals of European settlers, to the painful periods of political violence that continue to this day, the politics of land have necessarily bled through into the music of the continent.
This show tells a story of songwriters who were activists first, using music as resistance to speak to something far beyond; many were abducted, imprisoned and even assassinated for the words they sang. Tierra Querida celebrates them and their transcendent music that sings of a deep love for their home.
