‘A Bridge Across Generations’; It Takes A Village with Mr. Disco Kid…
The next edition of We Out Here Festival: It Takes A Village weekly radio series is here. A show paving the road to the festival, connecting artists from across the line up.
For this episode, Mr. Disco Kid steps onto the airwaves ahead of August with A Bridge Across Generations. Responding to the theme It Takes A Village, he reflects on the communities, collectors, record shops, dancers, and DJs who have preserved rare groove culture and carried it forward across generations.
Beginning his journey as a teenage DJ and record dealer, Mr. Disco Kid developed a deep passion for digging through hip hop samples into the worlds of soul, jazz, northern soul, and deep funk. His sets now move effortlessly between rare grooves, house, techno, and world music, creating connections between musical worlds that might otherwise never meet.
At the heart of the show is a belief that music survives through collective care. By introducing soul and funk records into contemporary club spaces, Mr. Disco Kid explores how younger audiences can discover older traditions, creating new dialogues between scenes while honouring the communities that have protected these sounds for decades.
Where voices connect and communities grow, culture is almost always built together…
