Through her “Breakfast in…” guest mix series, Valentine Comar invites DJs and collectors from across the globe to soundtrack the many moods of morning.

This week, she welcomes Jameela Elfaki, a London-based multidisciplinary artist, photographer, director, and DJ. With a musical background in singing, composition, and dance, Jameela approaches DJing as a form of storytelling, drawing from house, Afro-house, UK funky, garage, baile funk, and beyond. Her sets are instinctive, soulful, vibrant, and global.

Her mix, Breakfast in the Clouds, is inspired by the feeling of movement, travel, and the lightness of flight : "The inspiration for this mix is movement, travelling, flying. I'm very grateful to have been on a few journeys to different places this year, most recently to New York a few weeks ago. I love sounds that combine smooth soulfulness with rhythmic bass, lighter jazzy sounds, playful/sultry. My selections build in energy, like the electric excitement of going on a new journey, like a plane lifting through the clouds, I hope it will lift you and make you want to dance into your day. The mix has selections from around the world from melodic breakbeat, to garage, soulful house, Afro house/tech, Latin house and electronic Afro-Latino rhythms. We open on a track by an artist from New York, pass through Brazil, South Africa, the UK, and end up in Martinique via France." 

Valentine opens the show with a selection that mirrors the mood, uplifting, melodic, and full of forward motion, setting the tone for takeoff.
